About this place
With fragrant pour-over coffee and deeply caramelised Basque cheesecake, 22 CAFÉ in Suginami’s Eifuku neighbourhood provides a calm sanctuary where visitors can settle in at their own pace, from quiet afternoon coffee breaks to late-night bar hours.
The signature dessert is the Basque cheesecake, balancing a velvety, creamy interior with a pleasingly bitter browned crust. Alongside the classic plain version, the café bakes a rich chocolate Basque cheesecake that pairs naturally with freshly ground hand-drip coffees, brewed from beans of your choice including Ethiopian and Mandheling roasts. For a full meal, satisfying savoury dishes such as spiced chicken curry and pilaf are also ready from the kitchen.
After sundown, the venue settles comfortably into its bar persona. Drink selections span a house-infused coffee rum, classic cocktails, wine, and beer. Thoughtful accompaniments like juicy sausages and seared semi-dried bonito from Makurazaki give guests plenty of reason to linger over a glass.
Beyond standard table seating, the interior features sofas and a raised platform where guests can take off their shoes and stretch out, surrounded by ambient background music. Remaining open until 1:00 on select nights, the café serves as a dependable neighbourhood refuge when you want to unwind and collect your thoughts at the end of the day.
